Blood pressure checks, prostate care and proper eating for men
While research by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare has shown that Australian males are less likely to visit a doctor for a health problem than females, it could be that popping in to your local pharmacy for blood pressure test may be considered less daunting.
This idea is behind the Chemmart Pharmacies blood pressure challenge, which started yesterday (February 27) and continues until March 4 as part of its national Blood Pressure Week.
The pharmacies are promoting blood pressure checks – which cost a gold coin donation to charity – to encourage people to be more aware of their own health and have regular check-ups.
Chris Testa of the Tungun Chemmart Pharmacy in Queensland, interviewed by My Daily News, said: "Having regular checks will enable you to monitor any blood pressure issues and means you may be able to take steps to address these before any serious problems arise."
Conditions like heart disease and diabetes can be predicted or prevented with the help of checks such as the one offered by Chemmart, as well as having regular visits with your GP.
Along with prostate care, regular exercise and proper nutrition, blood pressure checks can be an invaluable element in men's health regimes.
